Licensing

A user license is required for each SPP user, whether they are using the Project plugin or the enhanced version of our Project Viewer. One user license entitles you to use either application (or both applications).

A full SPP license includes Steelray Project Viewer.

Users who already own a license for Steelray Project Viewer can upgrade to SPP for a small upgrade fee.

Introducing the First Security Solution for Microsoft Project Files!

Steelray Project Protector (SPP) is an easy to use security system for Microsoft Project files. SPP is two software applications: a plugin for Microsoft Project (for project managers) and an enhanced version of our Microsoft Project viewer (for the project team). A full SPP license includes Steelray Project Viewer.

Project Managers use SPP to protect project files:

Team members use an enhanced version of our Steelray Project Viewer to open and view protected project files, but they can only view the information that the project manager has selected for viewing. Note: An SPP user license is required for this enhanced functionality.

Protecting and Sharing a File in 3 Easy Steps

  1. The project manager defines a Project filter which restricts the tasks to the ones that should be shared. Examples of filters include:

    - Milestones
    - Completed Tasks
    - Tasks assigned to a particular resource or resource team
    - Tasks that fall in a date range
    - etc. (There are an infinite number of filters you can create)

  2. In Microsoft Project, the project manager clicks on the Protect button in the toolbar and selects the filter from Step 1. They click the "Save a Protected Copy" button and save the protected file. They share the protected file with their team.

  3.

  4. In Steelray Project Viewer (SPV), the team member opens the protected file (an SPP user license is required). Only tasks that match the filter are visible to the user.

How is SPP better than Password Protection?

In Microsoft Project, you can protect your project file from unauthorized access with a password. Microsoft Project gives all or nothing protection to the file. Anyone with the password can use Microsoft Project to open the file. Once they open the file, everything in the project file is visible.

With SPP, you choose which information in the file is visible. Microsoft Project cannot be used to open SPP-protected project files. Steelray Project Viewer (SPV) is the only application that can open the file, and SPV will only show information that the project manager has chosen to share.
